DISTANCE: 50 miles
TIME: 1.5 hours
The Going-to-the-Sun Road is one of the few roads in America that was constructed just to carry people through scenery. This amazing 50 mile mountain road carves through the Rocky Mountains in Glacier National Park. Going-to-the-Sun Rd features numerous hairpin turns. The road is quite narrow and winding, so there are size restrictions on what vehicles can travel on it. There is stunning scenery on this great driving road, including massive glaciers, cascading waterfalls and towering mountains. Add the colorful wildflowers to the roadside scenery, and you've got one of the best driving roads in the United States!
From the east, the road can be started by taking Hwy 89 north from Great Falls through the town of Browning. The St. Mary Entrance is the eastern entry point of Going-to-the-Sun-Road.

The Beartooth Highway in Montana offers a dramatic entrance into Yellowstone National Park. This great driving road in America travels through several national forests as you view the tallest peaks in Montana. The entire Beartooth Highway connects the communities of Red Lodge and Cooke City. Because of heavy snowfall at the top, the pass is usually open each year only from mid May through mid October, weather permitting. The road serves as a western corridor to Yellowstone National Park. The route below includes the entire Montana and Wyoming portion from Red Lodge to the Northeast Entrance Station.

The Lolo Pass on U.S. Route 12 is an exceptionally good driving road that travels through Idaho and western Montana. Lolo Pass is a section of road that is part of the Lewis & Clark Highway. There's amazing scenery from mountains to rivers and streams. The Montana side mapped below has a combination of long sweeping curves and tight turns, making it a great driving road for sports cars and Polaris Slingshots. Montana Highway 141 is not just a good driving road, it's also one of the best kept secrets in the state for driving a sports car or motorcycle. Montana Route 141 features lush pasture lands with surrounding mountain views along the way. Sports car enthusiasts will have the Garnet Mountains as a backdrop as you cruise along with roaming cattle in the distance, as well as fun turns on the hills.
MT-141 can be started from Avon at an intersection with US-12. The road travels north 32 miles to where it meets with MT-200.
